The Passage feature on Quizizz helps you turn rich content like reading excerpts, articles, websites, etc., into engaging, multi-question learning experiences. Instead of posing one complex question, you can break down the material into several bite-sized questions to build comprehension, reinforce key ideas, and spark critical thinking.
This article explains how to assign a Passage to your students as an asynchronous session or start a live session with it. It also demonstrates how students experience this feature and how you can collect insights and data on student performance.

Student experience
When students attempt a Passage, they will be able to view the material on the left and a list of all the questions they need to answer on the right.
- The questions do not have to be answered in the order in which they appear. Students can click on any of the questions to answer them.
- They can click the left and right arrow icons to switch between questions. They can also click on the 'Go back' button to see a complete list of the questions to be answered as well as view the Passage for reference.
- In the case of Passages created using a PDF file, students can use the PDF editor to highlight, annotate, or make notes for themselves while answering questions. But, these annotations will not be saved for teachers to refer to.
- After answering each question, students can click on the 'Submit' button. Once all the questions for the Passage have been answered and submitted, students can click on 'Proceed' to submit all their answers.
- With text-based Passages (i.e., Passages that do not have embedded content like PDF or a web URL), students can also:
-
Switch to dark or light modes by clicking on the 'Display' button
-
Annotate parts of the Passage by clicking on the 'Annotations' button and colour-code the annotations with comments. As a teacher, you can view these in the reports section of the Passage
