PhET Interactive Simulations are now integrated with Quizizz! These engaging simulations serve as interactive tools that allow learners to dive into concepts in physics, chemistry, and various other subjects. By promoting hands-on learning, PhET simulations enable students to experiment and deepen their understanding of a range of scientific topics.
With Quizizz, you can enhance this interactive experience even further and create a dynamic and integrated learning experience. You can integrate PhET simulations with various Quizizz question types, which would allow students to interact with the simulations and answer questions about them at the same time. Plus, you'll receive immediate feedback and valuable insights into student performance!
Find or create Quizizz x PhET simulation sets
You can use PhET simulations with Quizizz in three different ways:
- Find pre-made Quizizz x PhET simulation sets from the Quizizz Library
- Customize and add your own questions & directions to pre-made Quizizz x PhET simulation sets
- Create your own Quizizz x PhET simulation sets
Find pre-made Quizizz x PhET simulation sets
- Log in to your Quizizz account and go to your Explore page
- Type ‘PhET’ on the search bar and click on the first search result having the PhET logo ()
- You will now find many ready-to-use Quizizz x PhET simulation sets designed by science educators
- Review the content and assign it to your class as it is, or customize it to suit your needs
Customize pre-made Quizizz x PhET simulation sets
- Follow the steps above to find pre-made Quizizz x PhET simulation sets
- Select the Quizizz x PhET simulation set that you want to customize
- Click on the ‘Copy and Edit’ button
- Now, you can add, edit, or remove questions to align the simulation set with your lesson plan:
- Click on the ‘+ Add a Question’ button at the bottom right of your screen, and select from different question types to add a question of your choice
- Click on an existing question to open the question editor and make desired modifications
- To delete a question, hover over it and click the trash icon () that appears
- Click on the ‘+ Add a Question’ button at the bottom right of your screen, and select from different question types to add a question of your choice
- Once done, click on ‘Publish’ and assign the customized simulation set to your students
Create your own Quizizz x PhET simulation set
If you can’t find a simulation set that fits your classroom needs, just create your own!
Note: This feature is available for users with Quizizz School & District Plans.
- Copy the URL of the desired PhET simulation from their website. Please ensure that the URL is not behind a login
- Log in to your Quizizz account
- Click on the ‘Create’ button from the left navigation pane
- Select ‘Passage’
- Click on ‘Bring your own’ and choose the ‘Embed website’ option
- Paste the PhET simulation link into the URL field and hit enter. Please ensure that the URL is not behind a login
- Click on the ‘+ Add a Question’ button at the bottom right of your screen, and select from different question types to add a question of your choice. Repeat the same step to add more questions
- Once done, click on ‘Publish’ and assign the Quizizz x PhET simulation set to your students
Assign Quizizz x PhET simulation sets as live or homework sessions
Once you’ve selected or published a Quizizz x PhET simulation set,
- Click on ‘Assign’ to assign it as homework or click on ‘Start now’ to start a live session
- Select the session mode (for live sessions) and customize session settings (for both homework & live sessions) as per your requirements
- Click on 'Start' or ‘Assign’ (for live and homework sessions, respectively)
- To join a game, students can
- click on quizizz.com/join/ and enter the code you have shared, along with their names
- use the join code shared by you via an LMS (Learning Management System) like Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, etc.
- scan the QR code shared by you from their devices
- join via the link shared by you
Student experience
When students experience a Quizizz x PhET simulation set, they can interact with the simulation on the left side of their screen and find the list of questions and instructions on the right side of their screen.
They can read the question, interact with the simulation to arrive at the correct answer, and then select the correct answer.
After they finish answering all the questions and interacting with the simulation, they can click the ‘Proceed’ button to complete the session.
Reports & data
- Within a report, you can see responses for each question separately. Click on the 'Questions' tab or the 'Overview' tab to see how students have responded to each question
- If you have assigned any Accommodations to your students, you can view the results for each Accommodation profile. Click on the Accommodations tab and view the accuracy percentage and completion rate per each Accommodation profile.
- Additionally, you can make this report standards-aligned even after students have completed the Passage. Simply go to the Standards tab of the report to get started. Learn more here: Create Standards-Aligned Reports
