These question types are perfect for engaging learners in sequencing events and completing sentences interactively. They can also be used as great fill-in-the-blank and multiple-choice exercises, ideal for grammar practice, knowledge recall, and more!
In this article, we will learn how to create questions using the Drop-Down and Drag-and-Drop question types and how students experience these question types.
The Drag-and-Drop and Drop-Down question types are available on the Quizizz Individual (Super), Schools, and Districts Plans.
How to create a Drop-Down or Drag-and-Drop question
Creating a question using the Drag-and-Drop and Drop-Down question types follows the same process and steps:
- Click on 'Create' on the left navigation pane and select the 'Assessment' or 'Quiz' option
- Choose 'Create from scratch' and select the 'Drop Down' or 'Drag and Drop' question type
- Type in the question or sentence
- Click on the +Blank' button ()to add a blank in your sentence. Type in the correct answer in the blank.
- You can also select a part or word in the typed-in sentence and click on the '+Blank' button () that appears on top of the selected text
- In the lower half of your screen, you will find the option to add incorrect answer options
- Click on the '+ Add' button () to add an incorrect option by yourself, or
- Click on the 'Generate' button () to save time and generate incorrect options with AI
Once you're happy with your answer options, you can choose to add an audio, mathematical equation, answer explanation, set the number of points awarded, modify the time allotted, tag relevant standards, etc. Finally, click on 'Save question'.
Add more questions to your Assessment/Quiz using the same or other question types available. Once you're happy with your Assessment/Quiz, click on 'Publish' from the top right corner of your screen.
This can now be hosted live or assigned as homework. You can also have multiple blanks (up to 10) within the same question. These questions are auto-graded, but you can grade each blank answer using Flexible Grading. Learn more about Flexible Grading here: Flexible Grading on Quizizz

Student experience
When students see a Drag-and-drop question on their Assessment/Quiz, they can drag and drop the correct answer into the blank. To unselect an answer, they can click on it, and it will return to the options bucket.
For a drop-down question, all students need to do is click on the 'Select answer' button () and choose the right answer from the options list. If they want to change their answer, they can click on the same blank and select another option.
