Create a Lesson

With Lessons, you can teach to achieve significant learning results and boost student engagement.

You can also embed questions and Interactive Videos within a Lesson to assess students' understanding, identify gaps in teaching, and update your instruction on the go. 

There are three ways in which you can create a Lesson:

  • from scratch
  • by importing & syncing a Google Slides Lesson
  • by importing a PDF file

Create a Lesson from scratch

To create a Lesson from scratch, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the 'Create' button from the left navigation pane of your Explore page
  2. Choose 'Lesson' 
  3. Select '+ Add a blank slide'
  4. To add a new slide, click on the '+ Add slide' button at the bottom left corner of your screen and choose a slide type
  5. To add a question, click on the '+ Add question' button at the bottom left corner of your screen and choose a question type



  6. From the left menu, you can choose to:
    1. Click on 'Quizizz Library' to add slides and questions from resources in the Quizizz Library
    2. Click on 'Text' for text formatting needs
    3. Click on 'Media' to add videos, images, audio, etc. to your slide
    4. Click on 'Elements' to add elements like shapes, columns, etc. to your slide
  7. Click on '+ Add Slide' to create a new slide 
    • You can click on the 'Upload - Free arrows icons Import' button to import a file to add more slides

Import, sync, & generate questions from a Google Slides Lesson

  1. Click on the 'Create' button from the left navigation pane of your Explore page
  2. Choose 'Lesson'
  3. Select 'Import Slides' 
  4. Click on 'Import from Google Drive'
  5. Sign in to your Google account and review the list of permissions required 
  6. Once signed in, click on the required Google Slides lesson and click on the 'Select' button



  7. All the slides will now be imported. You can unselect and select slides for import by clicking on them
  8. If you want Quizizz AI to generate questions based on the content of the Google Slides you are importing, check the box before 'Generate questions with Quizizz AI'
  9. Click on 'Import'
  10. If you checked the box for 'Generate questions with Quizizz AI', Quizizz AI will generate questions based on the content of the Google Slides. You can either wait for the generation to finish, or proceed to the editor to continue working on your lesson while questions are generated in the background. Make sure to review the generated questions!



  11. Once the slides are imported, click on '+ Add new slide' to add more slides and questions as desired. You can also click on the 'Upload - Free arrows icons Import' button to import a PDF
  12. To add more slides from the imported Google Slides file to this Lesson,
    1. Click on the three-dot icon () followed by ' Select Google Slides'
    2. Select or unselect the slides by clicking on them



    3. Click on 'Import'
  13. To edit the imported slides in this Lesson,
    1. Click on the ' Edit' button. You will be redirected to the original Google Slides file, where you can make edits and modifications
    2. Once you have made the edits on Google Slides, return to the Lesson on Quizizz, and click the ' Update ' button 



    3. Select if you want to update the current slide or all slides from the drop-down menu
    4. Quizizz will now synchronize all the changes made to your Google Slides file with the Lesson

Import a PDF file to create a Lesson

To create a Lesson by importing a PDF file, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the 'Create' button from the left navigation pane of your Explore page
  2. Choose 'Lesson'
  3. Select 'Import Slides'
  4. Select 'Import from Google Drive' or 'Upload a PDF'
  5. Select and import the desired file
  6. Once the file gets imported, select or unselect the slides you'd like your Lesson to have and click on 'Import'
  7. Once the slides are imported, click on '+ Add New Slide' to add more slides and questions as desired. You can also click on the 'Upload - Free arrows icons Import' button to import a PDF



  8. These slides will be imported as static images. Click on the lock icon () to crop, delete, duplicate, and replace the image

Save your Lesson

Once you are happy with your Lesson,

  1. Click on the 'Publish' button from the top-right corner of your screen 
  2. Give your lesson a name, and set the relevant subject, grade, language, and visibility preferences
    • You can choose to give your Lesson and image
  3. Click on 'Save'

Types of slides and questions available

The formats of slides supported in a Lesson are:

  • Blank slides: Best suited for slides that are used in between different topics
  • Title slide: Best suited for presenting titles and topics 
  • Text slide: Best suited for text content
  • Text and media: Best suited for a mix of text and media content
  • Fullscreen media: Best suited for multimedia content that requires full-screen attention
  • Web page link: Best suited for links (to reach another site)
  • Interactive video: Great for embedding questions within videos in the lesson to keep students engaged and reinforce learning as they watch

Question types available for a Quizizz Lesson are:

  • Draw
  • Fill-in-the-blank
  • Multiple-choice
  • Open-ended
  • Poll
  • Match 
  • Reorder
  • Audio Response
  • Video Response
  • Drag and Drop
  • Drop-Down
  • Math Response
  • Labeling
  • Hotspot
  • Graphing
  • Categorize
  • Word Cloud
