Question Type: Labeling

The Labeling question type allows your students to drag and drop text labels onto various parts of an image. Labeling is an auto-graded question type suitable for all subjects, but it is particularly useful for Science, Social Studies, and Math.

In this article, we will explore how you can create a Labeling question and its labels. We will also learn how Quizizz AI can save you time by automatically generating labels based on the image you upload. Finally, we will take a look at how students experience this question type.

The Labeling question type is available on the Quizizz Individual (Super), Schools, and Districts Plans.

How to create a Labeling question

  1. Click on 'Create' on the left navigation pane and select the 'Assessment' or 'Quiz' option
  2. Choose 'Create from scratch' and select the 'Labeling' question type
  3. Add an image for labeling. You can:
    1. Search for an image via Google search, or
    2. Upload an image directly from your device

  4. Select or upload the image, crop it as desired, and click on 'Use image'
  5. Now, add a question and labels for the image. You can do this in two ways:
    1. Type in a question and add labels manually
    2. Use Quizizz AI to generate a question and labels for you based on the uploaded image

You can add up to 10 label options and mark multiple options as correct. You can also add equations to the question and its labels. 

Once you're happy with the question and the labeling answer options, you can choose to add an audio, mathematical equation, answer explanation, set the number of points awarded, modify the time allotted, tag relevant standards, etc. Finally, click on 'Save question' and publish the Assessment/Quiz.

When you add two or more questions, Quizizz AI will suggest similar questions that you can add to the Assessment/Quiz. Simply scroll down, review the AI-recommended questions, and choose the one you want to add by clicking on the '+ Add Question' button next to the question.

Adding labels and question text

You can add labels and text to your Labeling question in two ways:

    1. Type in a question and add labels manually
    2. Use Quizizz AI to generate a question and labels for you

Manually add labels and question

Once your image is uploaded,

  1. Type your question in the text box
  2. Click anywhere on the image to add a label to that point
    • You can also click on the equations icon() to add mathematical equations and symbols as labels
    • You can also customize the orientation of the labels by using the arrow icons located above the image



  3. Optionally, add incorrect label options to increase the complexity of the question

Use Quizizz AI to generate questions and labels

Alternatively, you can save valuable time and let Quizizz AI generate labels and questions based on the image you added to your Labeling question. After your image is uploaded, 

  1. Click on 'Create labels with AI' located on the left side of your screen
  2. Quizizz AI will generate possible questions and labels based on the image you have uploaded
  3. To select a question from the recommended options, click on the 'Use' button located next to the AI-generated question
  4. Drag the AI-generated labels to their correct positions in the image
    • You can also customize the orientation of the labels by using the arrow icons located above the image
  5. Make further edits and modifications, if applicable



  6. Optionally, add incorrect label options to increase the complexity of the question
Note: Quizizz AI is still learning and evolving. In some cases, it may generate inaccurate results. Please ensure you review the content generated before publishing it.

 

Once you are satisfied with the question and its labels, click on 'Save question'. You can go ahead and add more questions to your Assessment/Quiz using the same question type or more.

When your Assessment/Quiz is ready, click on the 'Publish' button, and your it is ready to be hosted live or assigned as homework.

Student experience

When students attempt a Labeling question, all the label options will appear in a jumbled order. To correctly label the image, students can drag a label and position it in the correct place in the image.
