Quizizz offers multiple settings that can be changed as per your requirements before you start a quiz. These settings can be found once you select your preferred game mode -- Live or Homework -- on the quiz page.

Set up your quiz

  1. Available on all game modes

By enabling this setting, you can set the date and time at which you want the quiz to begin. You can schedule an activity up to 30 days in advance.

  2. Available on Classic, Test, and Homework modes

This setting allows you to control the number of times your students can attempt the quiz. You can choose between one, two, three, and unlimited attempts.

Note: Limiting the number of attempts will require your students to log into their Quizizz accounts in order to play the quiz.

  3. Available on all game modes

When you assign a quiz to your students via classes, they will automatically receive a link to join the activity. This means they will not have to enter a game code, and you will have more control over who gets to join your quiz.

You can assign a quiz via classes on Quizizz, Google Classroom, Schoology, and Canvas. Begin by clicking on 'Select' and choosing the classes to which you would like to assign the quiz. You can also assign the quiz to specific students within the class.

Mastery and learning

  1. Available on Classic, Team, and Homework modes

By enabling this setting, you can allow your students to reattempt some of the questions that they answered incorrectly, thereby improving their accuracy. The number of redemption questions will depend on the length of the quiz. To learn more, refer to our article on Redemption Questions.
  2. Available on Homework mode

Redemption Quiz is similar to Redemption Questions in that it allows students to improve their accuracy by reattempting incorrectly answered questions. However, with Redemption Quiz, students will get to reattempt all the questions they answered incorrectly (and not just a select few) at the end of the quiz. To learn more, refer to our article on Redemption Quiz
  3. Available on Homework mode

With Mastery Mode, you can set a mastery goal or an accuracy goal for your students to achieve. Enabling this setting will allow students to reattempt incorrectly answered questions multiple times until they reach the mastery goal. You can also decide the number of times students are allowed to reattempt these questions. Read more about this in our article on Mastery Mode.

  4. Available on Classic, Test, and Homework modes

The Adaptive Question Bank mode enables your students to see a unique combination of questions from your quiz every time they attempt the activity. This reinforces their understanding of concepts through spaced repetition while preventing them from copying each other's answers.

When you enable this feature, you can choose how many questions you want your students to answer per quiz attempt. For instance, if your quiz has 30 questions, you can enable students to see only 8 questions in every attempt. This combination of 8 questions will be unique each time they attempt the quiz.

To learn more, refer to our article on Adaptive Question Banks.

Question and answer

  1. Available on Classic, Team, Test, Mastery Peak, and Homework modes

This setting controls the feedback that students see right after answering a question. You can choose whether they get immediate feedback on getting an answer correct/incorrect and also whether or not to show them all the questions with their correct answers at the end of the quiz.

If this setting is turned OFF your students will not be able to see the correct answer after each question they attempt, nor will they be able to know if they got the answer right immediately after attempting the question. Note that the OFF option is not available in Mastery Peak mode.

If you select Validate only, your students will get feedback on whether or not they got a question correct, but they will not be shown the correct answer if they answered incorrectly.

If you select ON, students get to see whether they got the question correct/incorrect, along with the correct answer.

  2. Available on Classic, Team, Test, and Homework modes

This setting controls the display of the review section for students at the end of the game. Turn this ON to allow your students to review the questions and their correct answers.

Select Questions only to enable your students to see only the questions and their answer options. They will not be able to see what the correct/ incorrect answers are.

If this is turned OFF, students won't be able to review the questions or answers after the quiz.
  3. Available on Classic, Team, Test, Mastery Peak, and Homework mode

If this setting is turned ON, each of your students will see their quiz questions in a different order. This makes it difficult for students to "get help" from each other (ergo, no cheating).

Turn this OFF if you want the questions to appear in the original order for everyone.
  4. Available on all game modes

With this setting enabled, the answer options will be shuffled for each question. That is, each student will see a different order of answer options on their screen for a given question.

Turn this OFF if you want the answers to appear in the original order for everyone.
  5. Available on Classic, Team, Test, Instructor Paced, and Homework modes

The Timer awards points to students on the basis of accuracy and speed.

    1. Default Timer: This option displays a visible countdown timer, but answers can be submitted even after the timer runs out. A score of 600 is awarded for answering a question correctly. An additional score of 0-400 is awarded based on how quickly students answer. Wrong answers are marked zero, regardless of the time taken to answer.
    2. Test Timer (available for the Quizizz Individual (Super) plan): This option displays a visible countdown timer, and answers cannot be submitted after the timer runs out. A question is 'timed out' if students exceed the time limit in answering a question. Timed-out questions are marked zero. A score of 600 is awarded for correct answers.
    3. Timer Off: This option disables the timer. A student is awarded a score of 600 for the right answer and 0 for the wrong answer, regardless of their speed.

    Note
: Incorrect answers and 'timed out' questions always get 0 points.
  6. Available on Classic, Team, Test, and Homework modes

When this setting is toggled ON, students can skip questions and return to them later in the quiz. It allows them to tackle the quiz strategically by attempting the questions they find challenging at the end of the quiz.

When this setting is toggled OFF, students will have to answer questions in the order presented to them. To lear more, refer our article on Enabling Skip Questions

Gamification

  1. Available on Classic, Team, Test, Instructor Paced, and Homework modes

The Quizizz Name Factory generates creative names for your students to use when they join a quiz. It was designed to avoid wasted class time while also keeping things light and fun. To learn more, refer to our article on the Name Factory
  2. Available on Classic, Team, and Homework modes

On Quizizz, power-ups are bonuses that are sporadically applied to questions. They improve a student's chances of getting a higher score. For instance, the 2X power-up gives players twice the points for answering a question correctly.

Power-ups affect game scores and may influence student ranking on the leaderboard. However, they do not impact their accuracy points. To learn more, refer to the article Power-Ups and Their Types.
  3. Available on Classic mode

When enabled, this setting allows students to express themselves with fun images and stickers as they wait for a live quiz to begin. They can also do this at the end of the quiz on the student summary screen that displays their results.

  4. Available on Classic, Instructor Paced, and Homework modes

With this setting enabled, students will see a leaderboard after each question, and see their rank during and after the quiz.
Disable this setting if you don't want students to see each others' scores/rank, or are not keen on making the quiz competitive.
  5. Available on Classic, Team, and Homework modes

Toggle this setting to enable Quizizz music to be played on students' devices. The Quizizz music played from your device will be different from the music played on the students' devices. This option is turned off by default.
  6. Available on Classic and Homework modes

If this setting is enabled, students will see funny images (called memes) after each question. You can also create your own meme sets! To learn more, refer to the article Use Memes in Quizzes.

In addition to these options listed above, we also offer a few specialized settings that are exclusive to the following game modes.

Team Mode

  • Number of teams: You can use this setting to divide your students into 2-8 groups.

Test Mode

  • Advanced features (available on the School & District plan)
    • Review & Submit:  By enabling this option, you can allow students to mark questions so they can return to review them at the end of the quiz. This will enable them to view and change their answers before submitting their quiz.
    • Focus Mode: When this setting is toggled ON, you will be notified if a student switches tabs or tries to open another tab while attempting the quiz.

Homework

  • Deadline: With this setting, you can choose the date and time beyond which your students will no longer be able to attempt the quiz.

We automatically save your preferred settings for both live and homework games. Each time you start a new live or homework game, we pick up the settings you used in your previous game. You can also choose different settings for live and homework games — we've got you covered there, too!

Note: Settings for Paper Mode vary significantly from the settings for other game modes, and have not been covered in this article. To learn more about Paper Mode, click here
